A one act musical

 Cast:  30 speaking parts (11m, 13f, 6 variable m/f) + chorus + crowd.
Suggested Age Range:  8 to 11
 Approx. Running Time:  40 minutes
Music:  8 songs, almost all for large sections or the whole cast. Solo opportunity for the dragon. Simple piano accompaniment with some optional descants and plenty of opportunity for guitars, recorders and percussion.
Set: The Town Square; the dragon's lair on the mountainside.
Synopsis:  For years the townspeople have been regularly sending seven maidens to be sacrificed to the dragon on the mountain above their homes. Legend has it that there will be dire consequences if they don't. Maidens, however, are becoming much more assertive these days and this year's chosen girls decide it is time things were changed. Faced with this problem the Mayor and citizens send for Young George, the dragon-slayer's grandson, in the hope that dragon killing is a hereditary skill. But the George they have summoned does not turn out to be all they had expected - and neither does the dragon. Catchy songs, a chorus of little dragons and lots of fun contribute to this new look at an old tale.

"We enjoyed working on this play enormously. Both children and adults enjoyed the plot - very important - and there is lots of scope to include as many children as possible. It's a real bonus when the adult audience has something to laugh about and a good story line to keep them interested, without placing it above the childrens' heads. The songs were ideally suited to this age group; I really enjoyed teaching them and they were popular with the children, which is vital. "

"Just to let you know that we were up against three other performances and The Truth About George won!! It is a fantastic play which includes humour, romance and a great story line"
